Of Flame and Fate (Weird Girls #8) – Cecy Robson (Review)

Expected publication date: September 26, 2017

Cover blurb:

Taran Wird, who commands the power to wield fire and lightning, is an oddity in the supernatural world. But neither Taran nor her unique sisters compare to the bizarre entity known as Destiny. And Taran is assigned to protect her.

Born of two witches, Destiny is revered among the supernatural elite for her acute ability to predict the future. Her biggest prophecy involves Taran’s sister, Celia, whom Destiny decreed will bear children strong enough to take on the evil that’s rising. Yet Destiny is not alone in her predictions, or individuality.

When Johnny Fate, a rock star among humans and a male version of Destiny is discovered, his powers and Destiny’s clash, triggering the start of Destiny’s demise and altering the fate of Celia’s unborn children.

Taran, her werewolf lover Gemini, and their allies must determine if it’s Fate who will decide what will become of Celia’s children, or if their lives and the world will perish with Destiny.

Ahh, the Weird Girls!  This is one of those series when I remember exactly when I read the first book-in the middle of a DEA conference on drug diversion!!  Sneaking a read in between learning about how meth is made and signs to look for to identify pill mills, but I couldn’t put it down!  (One of the many times I am thankful for ebooks!)  I was hooked once I started and was so happy since I was a bit late to the party, I had *2* novels plus the novella to binge on…but then I finished those and was heartbroken.  Cecy, I need MORE!  And look, now we are up to book 8, not including the novellas!!!

Now, those of you that read my bio know I’m Team Aric ALL the way, unlike the ‘hos that are Team Misha (cough, WW, cough!)  But if I could pick a WG character I’d love to be, oh yeah that would be Taran without a doubt. The girl says what she wants, whenever she wants and doesn’t give a flying ‘f’ what anyone else thinks…especially Mrs. Mancuso!  Theirs is actually one of my favorite relationships in the whole series, and exchanges like this are the reason why:

Of course, Mancuso doesn’t stop there. “Take your disgusting body and your even more disgusting suitors elsewhere!”

“I did. Your son-in-law says, hello,” I fire back.

“You whore.”

Gemini hoists me in his arms. “Damn it, woman, don’t you have children to lure into your gingerbread house!”

THAT is why I love Taran!  But never fear, savvy reader-the whole gang is back!  (Well, almost…I miss Danny.)  The sisters, the wolves, the vamps and most importantly to this book, Destiny!  (Or Trudehilde Radinka if you prefer.) I absolutely loved being able to get a deeper look into the best, or worst, dressed member of the WG family.

Taran is given the responsibility of protecting Destiny from the evil that stalks the Alliance members. The first big test of her bodyguard skills are at a concert held in Santa Barbara, where rock star Johnny Fate is performing.  Of course, that means chaos ensues during which Taran finds out that Johnny is a Fate. Among the supernaturals, a Destiny and a Fate cannot exist at the same time without causing an imbalance, thus leading to the rise of evil.

Thus begins a wild ride of an adventure from California to South Carolina, battles among good and evil and of course, some comic humor provided by the Catholic schoolgirls!  (If you’re reading this and don’t know who I’m referring to, get thee to Amazon pronto and one click this series, seriously!!)  As always, there is some nookie along the way…including a final scene that is just priceless!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Netgalley and CrushStar Media for allowing me early access to one of my all-time favorite  EVER!!  Now I have to sit back anticipating the next adventure while not-so secretly cackling over the fact that WW has to wait for this gem…or should I say Gem??!

Come on, it was funny!
