He’ll do whatever it takes…
and she knows it
Black ops assassin Eli Wayne may work for a company that cares only about money, but when Zoey Martin asks for his help following her brother’s disappearance, compensation is the last thing on his mind. With a multimillion-dollar bounty on Zoey’s brother’s head, though, they’ll have to fight to reach him before he’s killed—especially since Eli’s own company is after the money.
Zoey is the third member of the Martin family to get her own book and hers kicks off with a relative bang, when she makes an appearance at a conference in Billings to demonstrate their company’s new line of tactical wear. As part of her demonstration one of her employees shoots her to the horror of the audience, including her old boyfriend and a previous STEALTH operative, Eli Wayne. Eli runs to her and is stunned to see exactly how well the new Monster Wear line works when Zoey is relatively unhurt. (Quick aside-I loved this part!) After Zoey finishes her presentation they have a brief discussion but it doesn’t last long before she is called away.
Eli is left stunned to have seen her again, but he also feels guilty because he did not share an important piece of information with her: there is a contract worth $5M out on her brother Chad and his new employer is one of many vying for the prize. He decides to try and follow her after she leaves the conference as nobody knows where she and the other Martin siblings are hiding out while trying to keep off the radar of the Gray Wolves. He is able to track her phone until he reaches the general area of the Widow Maker Ranch, and following hunches is able to locate her just in time to save her from an attacker. Eli holds up with Zoey and two of her brothers overnight before finally confessing not only his knowledge of the hit out on Chad but the fact he hs accepted the contact from his employer! (You can just imagine how well that went over with Zoey-hint, she wasn’t pleased!) The story quickly takes off from there as Zoey and Eli must try to determine Chad’s location, and then head out in an attempt to save not only him but themselves from the clutches of an unknown enemy.
The action in the latter half of the book is intense, and I adored the relationship between Zoey and Eli. They have never forgotten what they once had and each must acknowledge their own responsiblility for the breakup while still working together to try to find and save Chad. Will they be able to reach him in time and also rebuild their relationship in the process? I’m pretty sure you know the answer to the latter, and you will just have to read the book to get the answer to the former!
I really love the Martin family and their interactions and each successive book has continued to build on their dynamics as a family. I am looking forward to seeing what is going to happen next as it includes my personal favorite of the family!!! And for those keeping track the two words for this book are prisoner nookie! 🙂
As always, thank you to Danica for the advanced copy but the content of the review is my own!
