Protective Operation (Stealth #4) – Danica Winters

On the run from terrorists, with an abandoned infant!

Shaye Geist tracks down Chad Martin in the wilds of Montana, seeking refuge from her powerful father and terrorists! In danger, Chad and Shaye are ready to run when they find an abandoned baby. Can they keep themselves and the mysterious child safe—even as enemies close in?

This final outing with the Martin siblings features my favorite of the bunch, Chad! He has brought some much-needed comic relief to the series, though I always knew he that he had a lot more depth to his feelings than it appeared on the surface. After his twin sister Trish was killed in the first book (‘Hidden Truth’) there has been a tinge of sadness to his humor though he tried to hide the extent of his grief from everyone one including his family. The only person who seems to understand him is Shaye who is mourning the loss of her husband Raj, and who was also a friend of Chad’s.

In addition to the heartbreak of Raj’s death, the knowledge that her father was responsible for his death drives Shaye to abandon her life as the daughter of the Algerian prime minister. She suspects he was also involved in her mother’s death years ago and has attempted to kill Chad as well, and knows that if she stays she would most likely be next. She decides to go find Chad in Montana knowing that he and his family run STEALTH and could provide protection from her father. As it turns out though Shaye has some moves of her own as the Martin’s cousin Wyatt (from ‘Ms. Calculation’) finds out to both of their chagrin! Regardless, he takes her to Dunrovin Ranch to find Chad who is having some difficulty of his own at an ugly Christmas sweater party. (You need the humor from the first few chapters to balance out the rest of the book!)

The story takes off quickly from there-a malfunctioning water heater indirectly leads to a murder, an abandoned baby, a sweet vacation home, gym sex and an explosion! Where else can you find this combination of events woven into a book?? This is why romantic suspense is my catnip, and Danica is a master of the genre! Again, while technically the books can be read as standalones I say plop your hiney down and read all the books one after the other for your Leap Day!

Oh and I kind of fibbed-while this is the last book in the series specifically dedicated to the Martin siblings, there will be more STEALTH books in the future, biggest of yays! That means I’m sure to see more of my fave Chad in the future!

Thank you as always to Danica for the review copy, though all opinions are my own!
